What to do when you get into a car accident? Firstly, do not panic. This is probably the most difficult thing to do. But, do not panic. Take a deep breath and calm down.
Whether or not you’re at fault, almost no one in Singapore will admit that it is their mistake. Both parties usually tend to point fingers at one another. Sometimes, it is very clear who is at fault. In such cases, usually the party at fault would like to do a private settlement on the spot. This is entirely up to you to accept or reject it. It is definitely a quick solution if the damage isn’t that bad. It saves time, hassle and your plans for the day can go on as per normal.
But if the damage is pretty bad, best to just take the next step.
Step 1
Exchange particulars of involved parties.
- Name,
- NRIC / FIN,
- Telephone Number
- Vehicle Numbers (Pictures would be good)
To make things easier, taking a picture of the front and back of each other’s NRIC is the best.
Step 2
Take pictures of the accident scene. For this part, you need to take as many “RIGHT” pictures as possible.
Take a picture of the accident scene. Best to stand a little further to capture the whole scene of all the vehicles involved if the environment permits. If not, at least must be able to see a picture of the involved vehicles.
Take pictures of damages to your own vehicle and other vehicles including the number plates of all vehicle involved in the picture.
For a multiple vehicle or a chain collision, take pictures of those with direct contact.
Step 3
If you have an in-car camera, stop recording immediately using the following methods:
- Remove electrical cable that is connected to the in-car camera;
- Remove SD card to avoid files being over-written.
